ABOUT THE PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE

The Public Policy Committee is one of the primary ways in which MCAE is the voice of adult education. The Committee strategizes and implements an annual advocacy campaign to promote budgets, policy, and legislation that will positively affect adult basic education on both the state and federal levels.

The Committee’s activities include tracking state and federal budgets and legislation, training practitioners in effective advocacy including developing an ongoing relationship with elected officials, providing timely information and electronic action alerts to the membership through the MCAE Alerts, organizing legislative briefings, and testifying before the legislature and policymakers.

The Committee strives to keep ABE advocates involved and informed and always welcomes new members. The Public Policy Committee usually meets on the second Friday of the month from 10 to noon. Meeting details are posted on the MCAE website calendar. If you’re interested in attending, please contact Public Policy Field Organizer Jennifer McAllister at jmcallister@mcae.net.

If you’re interested in learning more about MCAE’s efforts, please contact Co-Chair Steve Reuys at 617-287-4071 or steve.reuys@umb.edu or Co-Chair Roberta Soolman at 617-367-1313 or LitVolMA@aol.com.
