FEDERAL

MCAE’s most important national priorities are the annual federal funding allocation for adult basic education, the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act — Title II (WIA) and proposals such as the recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) which impact adult basic education and workforce development.

MCAE’s annual advocacy campaign includes:

• Establishing and cultivating ongoing communication with your federal congressional delegation and senators regarding the importance of adult basic education to their constituents, the Commonwealth, and the nation
• Informing and mobilizing advocates via MCAE Alerts sent electronically
• Providing training for advocates, including staff, volunteers, and students
• Incorporating civic engagement and public policy issues into the adult basic education curriculum.

MCAE's Resource section contains recent publications analyzing WIA reauthorization.
